MS. MARIETA ABDULL HAMID

Marieta Abdull Hamid is a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial Practice with over 18 years of experience advising on a wide range of corporate transactions and strategic matters. She currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the boards of several public listed companies, including Able Global Berhad, Cuckoo International (MAL) Berhad, and PMW International Berhad, where she holds various leadership roles on Audit, Risk Management, Nomination and Remuneration Committees.

Her practice area focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, disposals, and major capital and infrastructure projects, including cross-border transactions and concession arrangements. Her experience also extended to real property transactions, including acquisition and divestment of real estate assets, property projects and development, and property-related aspects of corporate and investment transactions.

Prior to joining the Firm in October 2025, Marieta was a Partner at PW Tan & Associates for over a decade, where she advised local and multinational clients on a various of corporate transactions, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, disposals and joint venture arrangements as well as real property transactions and property development-related matters.

Marieta also brings extensive in-house experience from Sime Darby Berhad, where she spent 7 years advising the group and its subsidiaries on a broad range of domestic and cross-border matters. Her work encompassed joint ventures and strategic collaborations, corporate exercises and corporate finance transactions. As a member of the Group Legal – M&A team within the Strategy and Business Development Department, she was closely involved in the strategic planning and execution of mergers and acquisitions, takeovers and cross-border transactions for the Sime Darby Group.

Marieta is a Yayasan Sime Darby scholar and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Notable Transactions:

  • Advised a joint venture between a property developer and a listed company in a proposed mixed development of four residential towers on Jalan Tun Razak with a proposed GDV of more than RM1 billion.
  • Advised a Malaysian entity in its collaboration with the Ministry of Health (“MOH”) involving a blood bank system in various hospitals in Malaysia under the MOH.
  • Advised in the joint venture between a wholly-owned subsidiary of a listed company with an offshore Chinese based investment holding company in respect of a mixed property development in Malaysia involving 1 block of hotel, 1 block of SOVO units and 1 block of service suite apartments with a proposed gross development value of above RM 1 billion.
  • Advised a Malaysian entity in respect of the sale and purchase of land between the Malaysian entity and Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak in respect of a leasehold housing land for housing development in the State of Perak.
  • Advised a Malaysian entity in a joint venture with an entity under the Ministry of Agriculture for a joint venture in respect of a proposed project development within the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.
    Assisted in the due diligence process conducted in relation to the USD1.5 billion multicurrency Sukuk issuance programme. This transaction was shortlisted in the 2014 ALB Malaysia Law Awards for Debt Market Deal of the Year and Islamic Finance Deal of the Year, and was voted 2013 Corporate Finance Deal of the Year by the Islamic Finance News.
  • Assisted in the review of facilities agreement of US$ 830,000,000 equivalent involving various local and international financial institutions as Joint Mandated lead arrangers.
  • Assisted in the acquisition and due diligence process by a Malaysian Plantation Company and a US based entity, through the subscription of preferred shares. This notable transaction led to the signing ceremony before the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the United States of America.
  • Assisted in the disposal of 75% of the shares of a power plant company to a listed power and energy company.
  • Assisted in the disposal of a Malaysian entity’s power business via a share sale by way of auction to one of Thailand’s leading private power generation companies.
  • Assisted in the bidding process whereby a Malaysian power company participated in the tender process for the combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power project.
